2. Data processed by the app

Memoriae de Wittibus lets you create memory books and personal memories. The app may process a book name as well as a memory’s title, date and time, text, and an optional photo you select.

This content is stored locally within the app and, when iCloud sync is enabled, synchronizes on physical devices through Apple’s CloudKit service with your private iCloud database. The app requires no separate user account and does not transmit your content to developer-operated servers.

Display preferences such as the selected archive view and color scheme, the iCloud preference, and technical synchronization status information are stored locally.

3. Photos and camera use for QR codes

When you add a photo to a memory, you select it through the photo picker provided by iOS or iPadOS. The image is stored locally as part of the memory and, when iCloud sync is enabled, synchronizes through your private iCloud database or is shared with recipients when you initiate a book share. Memoriae does not analyze it for advertising or tracking and does not send it to the developer.

After granting camera permission, you can scan a compatible receiver’s QR code. Live camera frames are checked on the device only for a matching code and are neither stored as photos nor transmitted. The QR code contains a technical receiver identifier, receiver type, and protocol version, but no memory content.

4. iCloud synchronization and private book sharing

When iCloud sync is enabled, Memoriae uses Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit to synchronize books, titles, dates and times, text, photos, and technically necessary identifiers and modification dates across devices using the same iCloud account. The local store remains available without a current connection, and failed synchronization attempts are retried later.

iCloud sync is enabled by default and can be turned off in Settings. The change takes full effect after the next app launch. Local books remain available; further changes stop synchronizing and books cannot be shared. Turning sync off does not automatically delete content already stored in iCloud.

When iCloud sync is enabled, you can deliberately share one book through Apple’s CloudKit sharing interface with specified people you select. The share is not public and is read-only. It includes the book title, technical identifiers and dates, and the contained memories with titles, dates, text, and optional photos. Recipients can read but not change this shared content through the share. Apple CloudKit handles invitations and participant information.

Apple may deliver silent push notifications for background updates. These are used only for technical synchronization and not advertising. Content is stored in your iCloud account’s private or shared CloudKit database and, according to Apple, is not visible in the developer portal. Processing by iCloud is also governed by your iCloud settings and Apple’s Privacy Policy.

5. Sharing with nearby devices

You can deliberately send one memory to a compatible nearby iPad or Apple TV receiver. Only after scanning a receiver QR code and selecting the memory does the app transmit its title, date and time, text, optional photo, and a technical identifier.

Device names, a random receiver identifier stored locally on an ongoing basis, receiver type, protocol version, and technically necessary connection information are processed within the local network to discover, verify, and connect devices. The scanned identifier is matched against the receiver advertised on the network. Transfer uses an encrypted peer-to-peer session on the local network and concludes with an acknowledgement. No developer-operated servers are used.

The iPad and Apple TV receivers in version 0.3.0 advertise themselves on the local network and store the most recently received memory, including an optional photo, locally on the respective receiver so they can display it again after restarting. The iPad receiver keeps it in the local application data until the next transfer or until the app data or app is deleted. The Apple TV receiver uses a local app cache that tvOS may purge when storage is needed. The receivers do not use iCloud synchronization; content can only be received and displayed there, not created or edited.

Only send content you intend to make available to the selected receiver. The developer cannot access the transferred content or subsequently delete it from the receiving device.

6. No analytics, advertising, or disclosure by the developer

Memoriae de Wittibus does not use analytics or tracking services, display advertising, or transmit app content to developer-operated servers. The developer does not use your content for advertising, profiling, or marketing and does not sell it. Book or nearby sharing occurs only when you initiate it.

7. Retention and deletion

Your memories remain stored locally and, when sync is enabled, in iCloud until you delete them in the app. Deleting a book you created also removes its memories; deletion synchronizes through CloudKit when iCloud sync is enabled. Removing the app only deletes the local copy on that device. Content stored in iCloud may synchronize again after reinstalling. Shared content remains available to recipients until the CloudKit share is stopped or removed.

Content already sent to a nearby receiver must be deleted on the receiving device. On iPad and Apple TV receivers, the latest memory is replaced by the next transfer. Until a dedicated delete control is available, fully removing it requires deleting the app data or receiver app. Device backups may contain additional copies depending on your iCloud or computer backup settings.

8. Legal basis and your data protection rights

When you use the app, local processing and optionally enabled iCloud synchronization provide the functionality you request. A book share or nearby transfer occurs only when you expressly initiate it. Where the legal requirements are met, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. You may also lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority.

You can view, correct, and delete your content in the app. Because private CloudKit content is not displayed to the developer in the developer portal, management through the app and your iCloud account is the intended route. 9. Provision of this website

This website is provided through Cloudflare. The provider is Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, California 94107, USA. When you visit the website, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data, in particular your IP address, information about the page requested, the time of access, and the device or browser used.

This processing is necessary to provide the website securely, reliably, and quickly and is based on our legitimate interest pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and additionally uses the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. This website itself does not use cookies, analytics, or tracking services.
